My NCBI for PubMed

If you use PubMed, creating an account with My NCBI is very helpful.  It allows you to save searches, and gives you the option to receive emailed alerts when citations are added that meet your search criteria. 

NCBI stands for The National Center for Biotechnology Information.  It is a division of the NLM, the National Library of Medicine, which is the department that creates and maintains MEDLINE, the database that PubMed uses.

Creating an Account

To create an account, follow these steps:

  • Click on PubMed from the library's home page.  Find and click on "Sign in to NCBI" in the upper right corner.

  • At the bottom left of the next screen, select "Register for an NCBI account" and follow the steps.


Using Your Account

To save a search:

  • Once you've done a search that you would like to save, click on "Create alert" under the search box.

  • Save your search according to the options presented on the next screen.  If you want emailed updates, select that box.

To retrieve  a saved search:

  • Click on "Sign in to NCBI" in the upper right corner.  Your saved searches will come up on the next screen.
